The Only Exception

James Potter had never been in love.

Yep. If someone wanted to say something that no one could disagree with, that was it. James Potter had never been in love in his entire life. Well, it wasn't actually his fault. Of course he wanted, someday, to have a loving wife and a big caring family, but until that day… He just wanted to have fun. It's not that bad, wanting to have the full experience of youth. At least, that was what he thought; there were some certain people that were happily disagree with him. Mom and dad, for example, always bagged him about that as they kept asking him when is he going to try and give some girl a chance. James usually used the same excuse: "I'm too young for that." But it was not what he had in mind. He just hasn’t found that girl that took away his breath, and until he will – James would like to have the opportunity to explore. And time had passed by and he still hasn’t found her. But then…

Then, there was Lily. That stupid annoying Lily, who did took his breath away (and a lot of other stuff too) from day one, with her curly flames hair and her amazing emerald eyes which always got that spark in them when she let herself look directly at him. He wasn’t sure how it happened, how he fell in love, but he knew that even at the very first time they met he couldn’t take his eyes off of her. She was, is, the most beautiful girl he has ever saw, and he did know some girls very well. She was the only exception.

The only exception not only because of her beauty and the way she caught his heart without even trying. No, there was something else there that made her the one and only: she wasn’t willing to give herself to him. In no way, and he tried everything. He delivered her letters and gifts, was there at any moment if she ever needs him. He protected her even though she didn’t ask him to and done everything to make her feel welcome and loved. He asked her about her life outside the school, helped her when she couldn’t do her homework and covered her when she was sleeping in classes because she practiced for the text the next day. He stood up for her even when she did not know and even when she wasn’t present; but Lily Evans is not easy to break. No matter what he did or does Lily continue to hate him; “Once a prat, always a prat,” She says.

 Maybe she was right; Maybe he was that prat she always talks about, with WAS being the key word. He changed. Damn, how he changed for her. He said he would do anything and he did do anything to get her. Why was she the only one who could not see?

Well, perhaps she did noticed but chose to ignore. Perhaps she liked the way it was before and did not want it to disappear. In that case, she was not alone. Sirius as well hated the fact that he is no longer what he used to be.

“It’s enough Prongs!” He yelled, throwing his hands in the air. “Can’t you just give it a rest?” Sirius moaned as he lifted himself of off the arm-chair. James moaned as well, but did not reply. Sirius wouldn’t understand. He couldn’t. Sirius never fell for a girl. He liked them as they come and go, never wanted them to stay. And it used to be the same for James as well, until Lily. Until the only exception.

The only exception that he wanted to be with. The only exception that he wanted to last forever. The only exception that he’s willing to do anything to get it. To get her.

And he will get her. No matter what, he’ll have her. She caught his mind and she caught his heart. Now it his turn to catch hers.

He shall not rest; he will not stop, until he’ll have her completely.

Because she is his only exception.
